12/19/12 - "99% chance of a strike"

posted Dec 19, 2012, 1:14 PM by Len James
Per industry sources, there is a "99% chance" there will be a strike, and that President Obama will NOT invoke the Taft-Hartley law to prevent such an occurrence. It is anticipated that the workers will cease work at the strike deadline of MIDNIGHT, DECEMBER 29, 2012, and not complete any work in progress. The GPA is currently assessing the situation, and should come forth with plans to move as much cargo as possible before the deadline.  Their plans will probably include extended weekend gates, and accommodations for the maintenance of reefer containers.
