Our City

Founded in 1733 by General James Edward Oglethorpe, Savannah was the first planned community in America. To accommodate religious, trade and social activities, the city was arranged in a series of squares – most of which survive to this day. Savannah is routinely selected as one of the most desirable vacation destinations by travel experts, owing to our vibrant historic district.

Our largest holiday comes on March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. Savannah’s celebration serves as the second largest parade and festivities in the United States. On that day, everyone and everything is green: from the grits to the beer! Ya’ll come!
